Goals and Objectives

 

Upon successful completion of this course, the apprentice will be able to:

 

Content management systems

 

1.    Understand what a content management system (CMS) is and fundamentals on how to use it.

2.    Understand the different types of CMSs available and prevalence of use.

3.    Understand, navigate, and utilize the elements of a CMS (admin, plugins, themes, support).

4.    Publish content on two CMSs including WordPress.

5.    Understand and manage the accessibility capabilities and techniques for two CMSs including WordPress.

6.    Selecting an appropriate CMS based on relevant factors.

 

Overview of web accessibility issues

 

1.    Understand and address the common challenges in web/digital accessibility.

2.    Understand past solutions to web accessibility, both ideal and not ideal, and implement the most appropriate solution.

3.    Understand the key differences between owned, third-party, and user-generated content, and apply accessibility guidance accordingly.

 

Techniques for accessible content

 

1.    Write accessible content.

2.    Design accessible content.

3.    Create accessible multimedia.

4.    Test for accessible content.

 

Social media

 

1.    Understand the different social media platforms and trends in usage to determine the most appropriate for an organization or project.

2.    Selecting a social media platform by understanding the general advantages and disadvantages of several platforms including Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.

3.    Understand and manage the accessibility capabilities of several platforms including Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.

4.    Implement techniques for creating accessible social media.

 

Applying skills

 

1.    Demonstrate how to use social media to create accessible content.

2.    Demonstrate how to use a CMS to create accessible content.
