Upon successful completion of this course, the apprentice will be able to:
Overview of Universal Design
1. Understand recognize Universal Design is in both the built and digital environments.
2. Understand and recognize the relationship between universal design, accessibility, usability, inclusive design.
3. Understand and recognize the principles of Universal Design.
Universal Design in the physical world
1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of physical accessibility principles and guidelines for the built environment.
2. Identify Universal Design implementation in the physical world.
Universal Design on the World Wide Web
1. Interpret basic concepts of the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
2. Interpret principles of the WCAG Guidelines: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust.
3. Understand and recognize the components of web accessibility: web content, user agents, authoring tools, and testing tools.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
1. Understand key principles of the UDL Guidelines.
2. Understand key concepts for ideal Usability and User Experience (UX) for learning.
Applying Skills
1. Demonstrate Universal Design in the physical world.
2. Demonstrate Universal Design in the digital space.
3. Demonstrate Universal Design for Learning.
